Since the beginning of February, with the help of Laurence, L'Arche International Delegate for Europe and the Middle East, we have been establishing links with communities in each country. This is a great moment for us, the project has become "public", more concrete and paradoxically less impressive (though).
We have long thought that the covid pandemic, the health constraints, the fears and the risks it implies could prevent this project in 2021. We learned that some communities in Germany and Poland were already vaccinated, and that others are still subject to strict health regulations in Slovenia, Croatia and Italy. Without a doubt, we will have to adapt the stages of our tour.
Nevertheless, we soon received very good news from Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Catalonia. Thank you Gertrud, MichaΕ, Lesia and Ramon for your enthusiasm and support for our project. We look forward to getting to know you and sharing the life of your community.
We hope to be able to make stops in Belgium, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Tyrol as well. We look forward to hearing from them.
The other important subject is how our children will live "their" project in this trip. Will they be able to share their time with other young people of their own age? Will they be able to integrate classes in the schools of the stopover towns? It is difficult to answer these questions 5 months before the departure ...
To conclude, each time we discussed the project with our friends, families and communities, ideas were suggested, contacts recommended, stories of travel between Les Arches told. This project is already bigger than us and it seems to be part of a tradition of exchange between communities. We are convinced that social and friendly distance will soon be more than a memory :D
If you know people who might be interested in this project, please send them our newsletter.
See you soon,
